CALVERT, EFFIE "JACKIE"

Effie "Jackie" Calvert, 93, of Chaffee, Mo., died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 30, 1913, in Greenbriar, Mo., daughter of Robert Oscar and Minta Graves Fowler. She and William C. Calvert were married Feb. 14, 1940. He died July 6, 1948.

Calvert was a retired cook at Mables Cafe in Chaffee.

Survivors include two sisters, Vera Astridge of Tanawanda, New York, and Melba Jaskolski of Pinedale, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

Funeral will be Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Vyron Yount officiating. Burial will be at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.

Lisa Dawn Calvin died November 19, 1973. She was born October 14, 1973 in Chaffee the infant daughter of John Paul and Sharon Diane Miller Calvin. At the time of her death she resided at 912 S. Main in Chaffee.

She is survived by her parents, one sister Kristen Leeann age 3, paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Calvin of IL, maternal grandparents, Mr. Freeman Miller, Mrs. Helen Hurst.

 

 

CAMPBELL, BRETT

Graveside service for Brett Michael Campbell, 3 months, will be at 1 p.m. today at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.  Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The infant died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at St. Louis Children's Hospital.

He was born Aug. 16, 2002, in Cape Girardeau, son of Patricia Campbell of Chaffee and Tony Michael Swain of Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his parents; maternal grandparents, Pam Campbell of Chaffee, Daniel and Shelly Campbell of Perryville, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Jane Swain and Mike and Alice Swain, all of Chaffee; maternal great-grandparents, Harry and Elois Floyd of Fenton, Mo.; paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Swain of Chaffee and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Davis of Oran, Mo.  He was preceded in death by a brother.

CANNON, DONNA

Donna Maria Smith Cannon, 62, of Chaffee died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, following an extended illness. She was born June 20, 1944, in Elkton, Md., daughter of Clyde H. and Cathryn Edwards Smith. She and William "Bill" Cannon were married Jan. 26, 1981.

After a 33-year career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., she retired in 1997.

Donna was a 1962 graduate of Delta High School, in later years serving as president of the Class of 1962 Alumni Association. She was also involved in many religious and civic organizations including: member of Arbor General Baptist Church in Delta, past president of Baptist Missionary Society, past president of Cape Chapter of Telephone Pioneers, past secretary of Missouri State Chapter of Telephone Pioneers, charter member and first president of Chaffee Historical Society, president of Chaffee Athletic Booster Club in 1999, secretary of German Day Association, member of Chaffee Chamber of Commerce, former member of Chaffee School Board of Education, and was a Cub Scout den mother.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Chaffee; two brothers, Ronnie Smith (Vickie) of Jefferson City, Mo., Bob Smith (Georgia) of Chaffee; two sons, David Ivester II (Jennifer) of Jackson, Wade Cannon (Jaimie) of Chaffee; two stepdaughters, Karen Cannon Brown of Springfield, Mo., Kathi Cannon Stone (Tim) of Cape Girardeau; and a stepson, Chris Cannon (Pam) of Cape Girardeau.

Also two grandsons, David and Ethan Ivester of Jackson; a stepgrandson, Alex Stone of Cape Girardeau; five stepgranddaughters, Kori Brown Skidmore (Travis) of Springfield, Kari Stone, Caitlin Cannon, Madison Cannon and Mackenzie Cannon, all of Cape Girardeau; and a great-stepgrandson, Gage Skidmore of Springfield; she also had many nieces and nephews.

Donna was a fun-loving person who cared deeply for her family. She had the good fortune to count many special people as lifelong friends, while they too knew what a treasured friend they had in her. Despite the challenges of her recent illness, Donna's faith and positive attitude remained constant. She inspired everyone who knew her.

Donna's struggles have now ended and she has found well-deserved peace with the Lord.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with Kermit Patton officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Elmer Andrew Cannon, 84, of Chaffee died May 9,, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape.

            He was born December 2, 1916, in St. Louis, son of Carl and Ruby Skinner Cannon. He and Ethel Louise Jeffries were married May 4, 1935, in Jackson, MO.

            Also surviving are three sons, Royce of San Antonio, Tx, Wm. of Chaffee and Timothy Cannon of Barnhart, MO; three sisters, Mary Katherine Morris of Swansboro, NC and Thelma Teller and Marjorie Nelson of Taft, TX.

 

 

CANNON, ETHEL LOUISE

Ethel Louise Cannon, 91, of Chaffee died Jan. 30, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Jan. 25, 1917, at Poplar Bluff, Mo, daughter of Willie Edward and Cynthia Margarite Crittenden Jeffries. She and Elmer Andrew Cannon were married May 4, 1935. He died May 9, 2001.

Cannon retired as parts supervisor at Borg-Warner Inc. in Manchester, Mo. She was a member of Maplewood Baptist Church in Maplewood, Mo.

Survivors include three sons, Royce Cannon of San Antonio, Texas, W.M. "Bill" Cannon of Chaffee, Timothy Cannon of Barnhart, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son and a sister.

The funeral will at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Vyron Young officiating.  Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.

 

 
   

James Cannon

James Loyd Cannon, 67, of Lucedale, Miss., passed away Feb. 7, 2007, at George County Regional Hospital in Lucedale.

He was born Jan. 3, 1940, in Chaffee, son of Louie Lee and Nora Lee Pryor Cannon.

Cannon was a forklift operator at Budweiser Warehouse. He was a member of Chaffee Masonic Lodge 615 AF&AM.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie (Danny) Jones of Chaffee; two sons, Terry (Michelle) Cannon and Tim (Germaine) Cannon of Chaffee; two brothers, Gerald L. Cannon of Lucedale, Joe Lynn Cannon of Gonzales, La.; five grandchildren, Trevor, Kaina, Kern Leigh, Andrew Cannon, all of Chaffee, and Amanda Cannon of Cape Girardeau.

There will be no service.

The family would like memorials made to Chaffee High School Music Department, 517 W. Yoakum, Chaffee, Mo., 63740.

Nora Lee Cannon, age 80, died June 4, 1995. She was born March 9, 1915 in Oran, MO to John Ellis and Pearl Hall Pryor. She married Louie Cannon on November 30, 1933.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee.

Survivors include sons; Jerry, Jim and Joe Cannon.

Vanda Ann Cannon, 65, of Chaffee died July 28, 2008, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born Sept. 13, 1942, in DuQuoin, Ill., daughter of Vandy and Hilda Sanders Byrd.

Survivors include two sons, Tim and Terry Cannon of Chaffee; a daughter, Debbie Jones of Chaffee; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

There was no service.  Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Juanita Clara Capshaw (Scheeter)

Juanita Clara Capshaw, 81, of Chaffee, died April 27, 1998 at the family home in Chaffee.

She was born in Bleda, MO on September 17, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Bertha Amrhein Scheeter.

On April 18, 1942 she married Robert H. Capshaw and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1995.

She is survived by 2 sons, Robert H. Capshaw II of New York, NY; Ben Capshaw of Kirkwood; 5 daughters, Brenda Welsh and Mary Jo Asel of Columbia; Barbara Kohlfield of Cape; Joyce Capshaw of Webster Groves; and Lisa Cushing of Glendale. She is also survived by a sister Viola Duren of Springfield, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Bisplinghoff Funeral Home here last Saturday afternoon for Halley E. Carbaugh, 49, who died in a Granite City, IL, hospital August 4, 1943. He had suffered from asthma for several years.

Services were conducted by Rev. Ernest Lee of the Baptist Church. The Chaffee Masonic Lodge had charge of the services at the grave.

Mr. Carbaugh was born in White County, IL, July 4, 1894. He lived in Chaffee for a number of years, being employed by the Frisco Railroad as a brakeman, and also was a barber here. He and his wife moved from here to Nameoki, IL, about 20 years ago, where he had been employed since as a switchman by the C. & E. I. Railroad.

Besides his wife he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles Jarrell, of Chaffee.

Burial was in Union Park Cemetery.

Last Rites For Mrs. Alma Carle Tuesday

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at the First Christian Church in Chaffee for Alma Corina Carle, who passed away at the family home on Saturday afternoon.

A native of Chaffee, Mrs. Carle was born on March 7, 1902. On Dec. 18, 1929, she was married to Nathan H. Carle, who survives her. They resided in Chaffee until 1939, when they moved to Blytheville, Arkansas. They lived a number of years in Hayti also before returning to Chaffee in 1956.

Although suffering from an illness which grew increasingly worse over the past 18 years Mrs. Carle had endeared herself with all who knew her by her unfailing courage and cheerful nature.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Witt of Chaffee, four sisters Mrs. Loy Heeb, Mrs. Alvina Pfefferkorn and Miss Velda Mae Witt of Chaffee and Miss Iola Witt of Ferguson, and a nephew, Dewayne Pfefferkorn of Chaffee.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Ralph Taylor at the church and graveside services were conducted by the Eastern Star of Chaffee. Interment was made in the Forrest Hills Memorial park Cemetery near Morley.

 

R. Carle, Former Resident, dies in Houston

H. R. Carle, 74 years old, former Chaffee resident, died in a hospital in Houston, Tx, last Friday night at about 9:20 o’clock. He had undergone surgery a few days previously. He and Mrs. Carle had gone to Houston about a month ago to spend the winter with their son-in-law and daughter.

Mr. Carle had worked for the Frisco Railroad 34 years before his retirement on Nov. 25, 1938. He was born Feb. 5, 1879, and first went to work for the Frisco as a brakeman on May 27, 1904. He was promoted to conductor working in that capacity when he retired due to his health.

Funeral services were held in Houston Tuesday morning. Besides his wife, Mr. Carle is survived by four daughters and two sons.

Lillian Carle, age 85, died February 9, 1990. She was born August 6, 1904 in Chaonia, Wayne Co., MO to James Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Lewis Vanover. She married Leo Clyde Shoemate on February 10, 1924 and he died January 21, 1958. On January 21, 1958 married Nathan Henry Carle and he died May 5, 1971.

Nathan H. Carle, age 66, died May 5, 1971 at Chaffee General Hospital. He was born March 24, 1905 in Cape Girardeau, MO son of Henry Ralph and Wilma Oster Carle. He was first married to Alma Witt on December 1929, she preceded in him death in 1959. He married Mrs. Lillian Showmate of Chaffee on August 5, 1961.

He was employed by the Frisco Railway Company for 39 years. Retiring in 1963.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chaffee, served as Plice Judge of Chaffee for 14 years, A.F. & A.M. lodge #615.

He is survived by his wife, one brother Ralph Carle, four sisters Mrs. Cecil Booh, Mrs. Wilma Gulledge, Mrs. James Bishop and Mrs. A. D. Robertson.

Jesse H. Carnell, age 68, died October 1, 1970 in Greenville, S C. He was born August 6, 1902 in Blytheville, Arkansas son of Harvey J. and Ona McMackin Carnell.

He married Mrs. Mae Campbell on July 21, 1926.

He was self-employed furniture salesman and lied in Chaffee from 1919 to 1942.

Survivors are a son James E. Carnell, four daughters, Mrs. Wm. (Rosezella) Daniels, Mrs. James (Marie) Westrich, Mrs. Austin (Aline) McClure and Mrs. Larry (Erline) Griffin, two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Kiest and Mrs. John Eldridge, 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Joseph Harvey Carnell

Joseph H. Carnell, age 88, died October 15, 1965. He was born in Dyer County, TN on January 3, 1877 the son of John and Mary Carnell.

He married Ona McMackin of Halls, TN on January 17, 1900. She preceded him in death on January 24, 1941. They moved to Chaffee in 1916 and operated a grocery store until 1920, worked until 1925 as a Frisco employer.

Survivors in a son Jesse W., daughters, Mrs. John (Ethel) Eldridge and Mrs. Clifford (Maurine) Kliest, two brothers Robert and Clarence Carnell, a sister Mrs. Florence Hume.

Louis O. Carroll, age 77, died January 10, 1970 at his home in Rockview, MO. He was born September 20. 1892 in Scott City, MO.

He married Pearl Niedilyin (?) on January 6, 1921.

He was employed 17 years by Cotton Belt Railroad retiring in 1959.

Services were conducted by Richard Thiessien overseer of the Cape Girardeau, MO Congregation of Jehovah Witness.

CHAFFEE - Lloyd "Duke" Carroll, 77, died at 5 a.m. Nov. 1, 2001, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Born Sept. 5, 1924, in Chaffee, son of the late James Edward and Amanda Marie Willie Carroll, he retired as a self-employed handyman.
On Sept. 9, 1957, he married Patricia Louise Ussery 9/9/1957 who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Lloyd Carroll Jr. of Sikeston; one brother, Eugene Carroll of Chaffee Route 1; and three grandchildren.
Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Services at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at the Belk Hill Cemetery in Rockview.
   

Eugene Carroll

Eugene Carroll, 65, of Chaffee died Dec. 5, 2003 at his home. He was born July 26, 1938, to the late James Edward and Amanda Marie Willie Carroll. He was a retired concrete truck driver with McDonald Concrete Company in Cape Girardeau and a member of the Local 574 Teamsters Union in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Rockview, Mo.

He married Ada Nordin Nov. 10, 1956. Survivors include his wife; one son, Rocky Carroll of Chaffee; one daughter, Tina Marie Carroll-Bradley of Chaffee; a brother, Scotty Nordin of Pocahontas, Mo.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Funeral will be at the chapel with the Rev. Marty Blakey officiating. Burial will follow at Belk Hill Cemetery in Rockview.

Pearl Carroll, age 84, died April 20, 1989. She was born January 12, 1905 in Arkansas to Jrank and Myrtle Padgett Neideffer. She married Louis Carrol on January 6, 1921.

She is survived by one son, Wm. F. Carroll.

 

Roy F. Carroll

Chaffee Signal-Feb. 16, 1950

Roy F. Carroll lost his life after a pickup truck he was riding in plunged into a large body of water in Illinois a mile east of the Mississippi River bridge at Cape Girardeau early Sunday morning.

Carroll was born near Chaffee, November 10, 1922, and had lived in this vicinity all his life. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Carroll of Chaffee and had worked since 1947 as a laborer for the Frisco Railroad. A brother, Fred Carroll, was drowned in May 1947, while serving with the Navy in Nevada.

Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Roy Estes of Chaffee; four brothers, Jess, Loye, Ollie and Eugene Carroll, of the home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Church of God at Chaffee by the pastor, Rev. A. A. Tripp. Interment was in the Rockview Cemetery. Stubbs Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

 

 

CARROLL, STELLA

Stella Marie Carroll, 81, of Chaffee died Jan. 4, 2005, at her home.

She was born Dec. 6, 1923, at Parma, Mo., daughter of Robert Plumber and Cossey Ada Ellis Sanders. She and Albert T. Carroll were married Feb. 5, 1955. He died Aug. 23, 1994.

Survivors include four sons, Scotty Nordin of Pocahontas, Rodney Nordin of Imperial, Mo., Anthony and Ronnie Carroll of Rockview, Mo.; three daughters, Ada Carroll, Ruth Hailey and Jean Bounds, all of Chaffee; a brother, John Sanders of Chaffee; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, a brother, five sisters, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee and funeral at the chapel, with the Revs. Watis Harrell and Marty Blakey officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.

 

 
   

Juanita Joyce Carter

Miss Juanita Joyce Carter of Chaffee died September 7, 1975 at Chaffee General Hospital after an extended illness.  She was 48 years old.

Miss Carter was born November 27, 1926, in Chaffee and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chaffee.  She was employed by Thorngate Ltd. of Chaffee for 27 years, before retiring in April 1973.

Surviving: her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Carter, Chaffee, and sister, Mrs. Mavis Huey, Chattanooga, Tenn.

     Madeline Casebolt, 89, of Warrenton, VA, formerly of Chaffee and Poplar Bluff, MO, died September 12, 2003 in Virginia.

     She was born August 9, 1914, in Piedmont, MO, daughter of Edward and Bertha Kirkland Brown. She and John Osborn Casebolt were January 27, 1934. He died February 26, 1956.

     She was a retired cosmetologist. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

     She was survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn, a grandson, a brother and two sisters.

     Burial was in Poplar Bluff at Woodlawn Cemetery

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Chaffee.

He is survived by his wife, parents maternal grandmother, Mrs. Olivia Brown, son Timmy Casto,  brothers; Larry, Wayne, Ivan and Troy Casto, sisters; Melba Jean Casto and Mrs. Martha Carr.

He was in U. S. Air Force.

 

   

CAUL, EDWARD "ED"

William Edward Caul went home to the Lord Oct. 25, 2006.

Ed was born in Wayne County, Mo., Jan. 17, 1915, son of the late Frank and Annie Eudaley Caul. He married Kathleen Marian Berendes Jan. 7, 1939. She preceded him in death Jan. 19, 1978. He married Mary Faye Dennis-Eachus July 26, 1980. She survives.

Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Brown and husband Charlie of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Edna Colbert of Sikeston, Mo., Kathryn Miller of Rockview, Mo.; a stepson, Russell Eachus and wife Katie of St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Gina Glaus Lowrey and husband Rick, and their children, Logan and Garrett of Prairie Village, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed was a farmer all his life and excelled at this career. He retired from active farming in 1970 only to direct his passion and love for the land to conservation farming for wildlife and reforesting. As recently as May of this year he was out in the field planting corn for deer. He was also an avid hunter, an accomplished furniture maker and a problem solver. He was a man of great integrity, wisdom and strong faith.

He was a faithful servant and member of First United Methodist Church in Chaffee for over 60 years. He held various leadership positions on the administrative board, taught Sunday school, led the Methodist Men, and served faithfully on the Board of Trustees. He helped shape the life and fabric of the church. Ed served on Chaffee General Hospital Development Board many years. He was a member of Gideons International Bible Society.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Suzie Eachus Glaus; three brothers and three sisters.

The funeral will be at First United Methodist Church in Chaffee, with the Rev. Marty Blakey presiding and the Rev. Leland Butler giving the eulogy. A graveside service will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Trustee Fund, 203 S. Third St., Chaffee, Mo., 63740.

CHAFFEE - Lee Roy Chambers, 73, died Aug. 6, 2001.
Born Oct. 22, 1927, in Texas Bend, son of the late Edward and Mary Lou Glenn Chambers, he had been a technician at Procter and Gamble in Cape Girardeau and was a consultant for Cates Associates in Cincinnati, Ohio, before retiring. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, St. Ambrose Men's Club and VFW Post 3127 in Chaffeeand the Knights of Columbus in Cape Girardeau.
On Nov. 22, 1952, he married Lee Anna Dumey who survives.
He is also survived by two brothers, Jack Chambers of Bartlett, Tenn., and Ronnie Chambers of Charleston.
One sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where parish prayers are scheduled for 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. AmbroseCatholic Church with the Rev. He was born January 29, 1918, in Advance, MO, son of George Edward and Mell Reed Chapman. He and Mildred Nance were married March 8, 2001.

Chapman was a machine operator at Florsheim Shoe Company. He was a member of VFW and American Legion of Chaffee. He moved to Chaffee 45 years ago from Bell City, MO.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Darrell Chapman of Chaffee, Keith Chapman of Oran, MO; a daughter, Diane Miller of Wichita, Kansas; a stepson, Kenneth Nance of Chaffee; three brothers, Bill and Jack Chapman of Chaffee, Ben Chapman of St. Louis; two sisters, Leida Kiehn of Advance, Maxine Smith of Delta; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Thomas "Ben" Chapman, 84, of Festus died Jan. 6, 2006, at St. Louis University Medical Center.

He was born May 17, 1921, at Advance, Mo., son of George and Mella Chapman.

Chapman was retired from American Can Co. in St. Louis, where he was a forklift operator.

Vincen Chase, age 76, died October 28, 1997. He was born March 19, 1921 in Auburn, Maine to Leo Chester and Ethel May Fuller Chase. He married Louise Krouse on March 29, 1964. He is survived by his wife, a son Eugene Le Roy Scalf and a brother, Leo C. Chase.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee and owned and operated Chafe House and Restaurant in Cape.

 

   

Edward Franklin Chasteen

Edward Franklin Chasteen, 79 years old of Dexter died January 24, 1990 at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born October 10, 1910, at Bloomfield, MO, son of Marvin and Dora Jones Chasteen.

He married Pauline Priest in 1932. She died in 1974. He married Emma Stephens in 1989. She survives.

Chasteen was an auctioneer and a fireman for the Frisco Railroad. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Advance.

Other survivors are two sons, Earl Chasteen of Chaffee and Eldon Chasteen, Reno, NV; two daughters, Mildred Nance, Chaffee and Joy Kinder, Martin, IL; a brother, Boyd Chasteen; four sisters, Jessie Mobley, Mattiele Mobley, Edna Smith and Donna Phillips; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Morgan Funeral Home with Billy Davis officiating. Burial was in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

Funeral services for Hester Louis Chasteen 78, of Chaffee, a former Malden resident, was held at Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden, MO with burial in Malden Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Davis officiated.

Mrs. Chasteen was born July 20, 1903, in Tennessee. She first married Paul Warren who preceded her in death March 26, 1968. She then married Edward Chasteen of Chaffee on December 30, 1974. She had resided in Chaffee the past 5 years.

Mrs. Chasteen was a member of Advance Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, one son, Clarence Warren of Caldwell, TX; 7 grandchildren; 4 stepchildren, Earl Chasteen of Chaffee, Mildred Nance of Oran, Eldon Chasteen of Rock Springs, WY, and Joy Kinder of Monta Rose, CO.

Choate was a former electrician at Noranda Aluminum Inc. in New Madrid, MO. He was a member of Chaffee Masonic Lodge 615, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1 of St. Louis.

Audrey Faye Clark, 75, of Chaffee died Dec. 6, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 11, 1932, at Chaffee to the late Charley and Gertrude McClain Leggett. Audrey married Daniel Clark Sept. 23, 1950. He preceded her in death Sept. 10, 2001.

She was a retired cementer for Florsheim Shoe Co. in Chaffee and was also an Avon sales consultant more than 20 years.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary 389, VFW Auxiliary 3127, Elks Ladies 1810 and CBers Club, all in Chaffee.

CHAFFEE - Daniel Clark, 72, died Sept. 10, 2001, at his home.

Born Sept. 28, 1928, in Hagenville, Ark., son of the late Henry and Alice Johnson Clark

He trained with the U.S. Navy Training Center in San Diego, Calif., and served with the USS Doran, Squadron 41 and at Nob, Guam, Mare Island. A recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the China Service Medal, he had served as apprentice seaman, second class, seaman first class and commissary man seaman during his service from 1945-49.

He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 years before retiring and was a member of the Chaffee Elks Lodge, VFW Post 3127 and Trainmen's United Transportation Union.

On Sept. 23, 1950, in Piggott, Ark., he married Audrey Faye Leggett who survives of the home.  Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Teresa Clark of Chaffee; two daughters and one son-in-law, Angela McGuire of Chaffee and Sharon and Don McCarty of Jackson; two sisters, Hazel Storms of Vanduser and Myrtle Proctor of Omaha, Neb.; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Six brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Harold Rudolph Clark

Harold R. Clark, age 49, died April 23, 1967 at Cochran Veterans Hospital. He was born December 16, 1917 in Fisk, MO the son of Harry Francis and Emma L. Bolin Clark.

He served with the 186th Infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII and received the Bronze Star for valor during the New Guinea Campaign. Following WWII he was employed by the railroad for a short time and last worked in Seva, MN for Silo Company. He was injured when a scaffold gave way and had lived back in Chaffee for about a year.

Survivors include mother and step-father Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Emma) Richardson, one son, Johnnie Clark, a daughter Mrs. Carolyn Pugh, two brothers, Russell and Vincent Clark, two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Marcia) Nordin and Mrs. Carmen Mills and 2 grandchildren.

Marie Dame Clawson, 70, of Chaffee died (April 1980) at the Sikeston Manor where she had been living since last Friday.

She was born December 23, 1909 at Clarkton, MO to the late Wm. Frank and Lydia Gregory Dame.

Mrs. Clawson was employed by the A & P Company in St. Louis for over 20 years, retiring in 1972 as a Comptometer operator.

She moved to Chaffee in 1976 coming from Osage Beach, MO.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee and the Scott County Chapter of RSVP, having served at the Chaffee General Hospital and the Chaffee Nutrition Program doing her volunteer work.

Survivors include; three brothers, Raymond of Chaffee, Robert E. of St. Louis and Albert of Sikeston, three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Jeffries of Sikeston, Mrs. Clarence (Nora Jo) Quertermous of Detroit, and Mrs. M.M. (Virginia) Croom of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at First Baptist Church with Rev. L. Sid West officiating, burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape.

She was a retired secretary for Calvary Baptist Church in St. Louis, where she was also a church member.

He married Minnie Irene Null of Hematite, MO on July 24, 1913 and moved to Chaffee in 1917. Mr. Cline was employed as a conductor for the Frisco Railway Company retiring after 48 years of service in 1965.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church, A.F.&A.M. Lodge #615, served as Worshipful Master, Past District Deputy Grand Lecturer for ht 49th Distsrict, member of B. of R.T. Cape Rock Lodge. O.R.C. #422 Cape Division.

Benjamin Coakley

Benjamin Barnard Coakley, 75 years old, died in a Cape nursing home July 28, 1957, where he had been a patient for three months.

Mr. Coakley was born in Oakfield, NY, May 1, 1882, and was married to Miss Catherine Potter in 1905 at oakfield. They moved to Chaffee in 1906, and he was employed by the Chaffee Ice & Cold Storage Co., until it quit business. He retired in 1942.

He was preceded in death by two sons and two daughters. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Raymond and Richard Coakley of Chaffee and Clifford Coakley of Paris City, AL, and one granddaughter.

The body was at Stubbs Funeral Home where services were conducted by Rev. Wm. Marshall. Burial was in Union Park Cemetery.

The Rev. Bill Ellis assisted by Rev. Wm. Marshall, Monday conducted the funeral service for Mrs. Catherine Coakley, 83, wife of the late Ben Coakley.

The rites were held at the First Baptist Church of which she had been a member since coming to Chaffee in 1907.
