Ben Eskew

Ben Eskew was born in Richmond, Va, August 1857, died in the hospital in Cape Girardeau, December 29, 1919. Age 61 years and 8 months.

Mr. Eskew's death was the result of a fall from a temporary support of some fragile sort, while at work on the Mears building last Friday morning about 10 0'clock. He fell about 12 feet, striking on some lumber and bricks. He sustained a ruptured bladder, torn abdomen and injuries to the back and kidneys. A physician was immediately called, and after emergency treatment, he was carried to his home on West Cook Avenue, where a consultation and examination was held by two of our physicians, and it was decided to send him to the Cape hospital for an operation. This was done, but the injuries were fatal and nothing that human skill could do availed to save his life, and he passed away a few hours after the operation. Deceased was a hard-working man, a carpenter by trade, and lost very little time. He had been a resident of this city for several years, and was reckoned a good mechanic, doing his work thoroughly and honestly.

He is survived by a wife and two children, and a step-daughter. Funeral services were conducted at the grave in Rockview Cemetery Tuesday afternoon in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends. May he rest in peace, and may his off-spring do honor and respect to his memory. The Signal extends its sympathy to the sorrowing family, and commends them to Him, who said, "Come unto Me, all ye who are heavy

laden".
