FADLER, BETTY L

Betty L. Fadler, 70, of Marble Hill died July 1, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born May 14, 1934, at Chaffee, Mo., daughter of J.H. and Erline Ponder Davenport. She and Jerry Fadler were married in April 1998 at Chaffee.

Fadler was a secretary, organist and pianist for Evangelical United Church of Christ before retiring this year. She also was co-owner of an insurance company in Wilson, Ark., before moving to Cape Girardeau and worked as a secretary at Lowes & Drusch law office. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chaffee.

Survivors include her husband; her mother of Chaffee; three sons, Robert Rhodes of Newton, Kan., John Rhodes of Norfolk, Va., Bentley Rhodes of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Tom Davenport of Chaffee; a sister, Cheryl Spencer of Denver, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral will be at the Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marty Blakey officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Eva Jeanette Farmer

     Mrs. Eva Jeanette Farmer, 77, died April 10, 1987, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

     Born February 25, 1910, in Chaffee, to the late John Edwin and Minnie Belle Lawrence Barber, she was a bookkeeper for many years for Hollman Produce before retiring. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chaffee and a member of the Chaffee Order of the Eastern Star.

     On May 2, 1931, she married E. Porter Farmer, who survives of the home.

     Also surviving are: two sons, Robert P. Farmer of Litchfield, IL, and John E. Farmer of St. louis; one daughter, Barbara J. Lincoln of El Paso, TX; one brother, Edgar J. Barber of Bell View, FL, and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

     Services were conducted at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee with Jack Leslie and the Rev. Douglas Pope officiating. Burial was in Union Park Cemetery.

E Porter Farmer

E. Porter Farmer born October 4, 1906 in Dixon KY to Mary and Wm Farmer, began his eternal life with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 25, 1999.

Mr. Farmer spent the last few years in El Paso but was a long time resident of Missouri and an Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Eva J. Farmer, his youngest son, John E. Farmer; and his great grandson, James Gelabert.

He is survived by his daughter Barbara Kusserow (Richard), his son Robert P. Farmer (Karen); his daughter-in-law, Holly Farmer and his brother Wm. Shirley Farmer. Grandchildren LaWanna Lincoln, John and Cecilia Lincoln, Cindy and Jimmy Gelabert and their children, Nick, Chris, Jaclyn; Tina and husband Tom; Lisa and Casey Rogers and their children Jarett and Jenna, Tina Farmer and her daughter

Heather; Shawn and Jennifer Farmer and their daughter Myra; Tim and Nanette Farmer, Michael Farmer, Leslie Ann Farmer and finance Kevin Lesko, Rhonda and Roger Smith and their children Grant and Grace; and by Russell, David, and Jason Hockett

Our papa will be remembered for his smile, the twinkle in his eyes, and the wisdom and love of family he shared with us all.

Lillian Anthony Fatchett

Lillian Fatchett, age 71, died December 26, 1971. She was born October 23, 1900 in Ft. Smith, AR the daughter of Fred & Jessie Belle Ray Wrench.

She was married to Ray Fatchett on February 6, 1919. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1969.

Surviving her was a daughter Mrs. Robert Delezene.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chaffee. She moved to Chaffee in 1919.

Ray Fatchett, age 69, died September 21, 1969. He was born October 17, 1899 in Irondale, MO the son of Thomas Joseph and Sally Compton Fatchett.

He married Lillian Wrench of Hot Springs, AR on February 6, 1919.

He was employed by the Frisco RR for 47 years. Retiring December 8, 1964.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Chaffee and the Elks B.P.O.E. # 1810 of Chaffee.

He was survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Robert Delezene, sister, Mrs. Charles D. Allen and a brother, Earl Fatchett

Sallie Fatchett

Sallie Fatchett, age 90, died August 12, 1962. She was born in Potosi, MO on February 22, 1872 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Jenkins) Compton.

She married Thomas Joseph Fatchett. He preceded her in death on march 31, 1933.

She is survived by two sons: Ray & Earl Fatchett, one daughter; Mrs. Charles B. Allen, sisters, Mrs. A.B. Horton and Mrs. Charles Parkins.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Chaffee.

FATCHETT, THOMAS

Joe Felden

June 27, 1937

     Apparently struck by lightning while he was working alone operating a sand pump on a levee construction project in the Birds Point-New Madrid  floodway near Doren. Joe Felden of Rockview, MO a brother of Frank G. Felden, 1200 Good Hope street, was killed Sunday. It is believed the bolt struck Felden about 3 o”clock, but he was not found until about 5 o’clock by a levee inspector on his regular trip.

      His clothing was scorched and the soles torn from his shoes, but his body was unharmed. Felden was lying face down when he was found. The body was removed to Charleston, MO where an inquest verdict was given. Felden had been working most of the summer on the levee construction project.

       The body was taken to Stubbs Funeral Home in Chaffee and funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, but the time and place had not been definitely decided today. His brother here, a lumber dealer, notified of the accident, went to Charleston Sunday.

        Mr. Felden, who was 35 years old, was born July 16, 1902 at Chaffee. He spent most of his life there and is survived by his widow, formerly, Miss Beulah Wilford of Chaffee and three children, Kenneth, Ruth Ann & Bobby Joe. Other surviving relatives are his brother here, a half-brother, L. W. Felden of Rockview and three half-sisters, Mrs. J. R. Mattingly of St. Louis, Mrs. Eugene Mattingly of Houston, TX and Mrs. A. G. Schlegel of E. St. Louis, MO.

        Services were held at St. Ambrose Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape.

Marvin Dale Felty

Marvin Felty, age 57, died November 27, 1984. He was bornJuly 11, 1927 in Benton. MO to Oda and Zora Dell Wagoner Felty. He married Norma Dean Brown on September 19, 1947.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Chaffee.

He is survived by his wife, son; Roger Dale Felty, one brother; Melvin Felty and four sisters, Mrs. Opal Cook, Mrs. Doris Scott, Mrs. Gloria Weinberger and Mrs. Zella Story.

FELTY, STEVEN W

Steven Wade Felty, 57, of Chaffee, Mo., died March 15, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born June 15, 1950, in Cape Girardeau to the late Wade Odell and Mary Alice Glency Felty. He and Martha McBride were married Jan. 26, 1973, in Chaffee.
Steve was the supervisor of the Chaffee Sanitation Department, working there for the past 23 years. Before working for the city he was a self-employed mechanic.
Steve and Martha were part owners of Arrowhead Campground at Castor River. They spent many happy years camping with family and friends there.
He is survived by his wife Martha; a son, Steve (Carry) Felty of Chaffee; a daughter, Mary (Chris Wilburn) Felty of Chaffee; a sister, Marlys (Wayne) Ford of Jackson; a brother, Barry Felty of Chaffee; and five grandsons, Cooper and Jordan Wilburn, Reece Felty, Tucker and Mitchell Burton.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. services will be at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at the Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.

Ruby Ferrell

Mrs. Ruby Ferrell 55 years old of Chaffee died at a hospital in Cape. Services were held at First Baptist Church in Chaffee with Rev. Edward Walsh the pastor officiating. Burial was in Union Park Cemetery.

Ruby was born March 12, 1903 at Cape, the daughter of John Mollie Thompson Thompson. She married Frank Ferrell.  She moved to Chaffee in 1935. She lived on the corner of Black and Main and ran a Taxi Service.

G.D. Fetter of Chaffee Taken by Death at 69

Chaffee-1958-Missourian

    Garce D. Fetters, 69 years old, died at 7 a.m. Sunday of a heart attack as he was preparing to walk downtown.

    Born in Vandalia, Il, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Fetter, he moved with his family to Stoddard County when he was 3. He lived near Leora and Puxico and farmed in later life. He had lived in Chaffee for five years, being associated with a step-daughter, Mrs. Earl Von Leffern in operation of a Western Auto Store.

   He was first married to Mrs. Martha Jane McGuire of Puxico. After her death he married Mrs.Elizabeth Unger of Bloomfield in 1939. She survivies.

    He also leaves three children by the first marriage, Mrs. Naomi Boone of Flint, Mi, Norman Fetter of Charleston, Mo and Freeman Fetter of Flint, Mi; five step daughters Mrs. Von Leffern, Mrs. Irene Spencer of  Chaffee, Mrs. Evelyn Jordan of Charleston, Mo, Mrs. Louise Priddy of Chicago, and Mrs. Mary Hopkins of Dexter; a brother Claude Fetter of Fredericktown and 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

   The body will remain at Bisplinghoff Funeral Home in Chaffee until 2 p.m. Tuesday. When funeral services will be conducted at West Union General Baptist Church at Fagen. Burial will be in the church cemetery

 

Forrest Finch

Forrest Finch, 78, died at 3:15 p.m. Monday, October 7, 1985, from an apparent heart attack, while picking apples at the Knoll Crest Orchard near Jackson, MO.

He was born May 2, 1907, in Mr. Vernon, Indiana, a son of the late George Brady and Rosa Captola Thomas Finch.

On December 24, 1929, he married Miss Virginia Belk and she survives.

He was employed as a railway engineer for the Frisco Railway Company until he retired in November of 1973. Mr. Finch was a member of the First Methodist Church of Chaffee and the United Transportation Union.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Mary Rose) Pobst, Mrs. Dave (Maxine) Pepple, both of Chaffee; one sister, Mrs. Dial (Lucille) Below of Jennings, MO; twelve grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, until 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at which time he will be taken to the First United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas Pope, the pastor officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Cape. Pallbearers will be Fred Surman, E. H. Ryan, Ed. Caul, David Summers, J. W. Groseclose, Raymond Cook.

 

   

Virginia Finch

Virginia Finch, 95, of Chaffee died Dec. 29, 2003, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born Feb. 20,1908, at Rockview, Mo., daughter of William J. and Fannie Miller Belk. She and Forrest Finch were married Dec. 24, 1929. He died Oct. 7, 1985.

Finch taught at Rockview School from 1925 to 1927, and owned Maxine's Drive-In several years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School many years, was a district officer with Women's Society of Christian Service, managed the Methodist Thrift Shop many years, and was a volunteer with Chaffee RSVP.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Rose Pobst and Maxine Pepple of Chaffee; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, the funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marty Blakey officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Nellie D. Finley

Nellie Finley, age 88, died August 8, 1987. She was born February 2, 1899 in Pemiscot Co., MO to Wm. Henry and Rosa Godair Whitten. She married Wm. V. Finley on July 9, 1916. He died December 25, 1967.

She was a member fo the Church of Christ of Scott City, MO and resided at 129 Martha.

Surviving her is a son, Joseph E. Finley, daughters; Mrs. June Wilkinson, Mrs. Betty Henderson and Mrs. Pat Porter.

 

   

 

FINLEY, ROBERT W

Robert W Finley, 84 years old, died in St. Francis Hospital at Cape Girardeau January 17, 1952. He had been admitted to the hospital Jan 13 after suffering a heart ailment.

Mr. Finley was the last of Chaffee’s pioneer merchants, having come here in 1905. He had operated a drug store here continuously since that time. He was prominent in Chaffee’s early growth and saw this city start from a wheat field and develop into one of Southeast Missouri’s most progressive communities.

Mr. Finley’s first drug store was in a frame building in the 200 block of West Yoakum Avenue, and when it was destroyed by fire he erected the building now occupied by Carter’s Café. He later erected the two story building which is now occupied by his drug store. He also erected the two business buildings immediately north of the post office.

Mr. Finley was born July 15, 1867 at Kelso, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Finley. He moved to Commerce in 1888 and to Chaffee in 1905. In 1895 he was married to Miss Florence Sewell of Commerce. She died in 1947.

Mr. Finley is survived by two sons, Richard Finley, who was associated with him in the drug business here, and Cecil Finley of New York; two daughters, Mrs.; F.R. Thomas of Roseville, Cal., and Mrs. Steve Hill of Hayti; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Stubbs Funeral Home, with Rev. Theodore Probst, pastor of the Methodist Church, in charge. Burial was made in Oakdale Cemetery at Commerce.

Pallbearers were A.O. Slinkard, Byron Yount, L.D. Lankford, Fred Goldtrap, Mont Proffit and V.D. LaVal. Honorary pallbearers were W.B. Thomson, Dr. W.O. Finney, Dr. G.A. Sample, Dr. W.A. Walling, Dr. L.P. Spencer, G.F. Thomas, L.L. Lankford and P.N. Keller.

FINNEY, MARDELL AGATHA

Mardell Agatha Finney, 87, of Chaffee died June 19, 2000, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born Oct. 17, 1912, daughter of Walter P. and Elizabeth Stausing Masters. She and Dr. W. O. Finney were married April 22, 1941. He died May 29, 1970.

Finney lived in Chaffee all her life. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Warner of West Hills, Calif., Walter Finney of Mountain Grove, Norman Finney of Gallatin, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Kay Stewart of Bay Minette, Ala., Betty Warner Bauersachs of Pinckneyville, Ill.; a sister, Ruth Buckhannon of Chaffee; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 6 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Watis Harrell officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.

William Ozro Finney Dr.

Wm. Finney, age 83, died May 29, 1970. He was born July 13, 1886 in Laflin, MO the son of Dr. W. B. & Martha Elizabeth Clippard Finney.

He married Mrs. Mardell (Masters) Warner on April 22, 1941. He resided at 403 Elliott in Chaffee.

He was survived by his wife, sons: Walter and Norman Finney, daughter Mrs. Gene (Kay Sue) Stewart, three daughters by a previous marriage; Mrs. Elizabeth McLeod, Mrs. Mildred Schulte and Mrs. Martha Thomas, step-son, Bill Warner; step daughter, Mrs. T. Bertie Mae Fish

       Bertie Fish, age 77, died March 22, 1981. She was born April 29, 1903 in Nesbit, MO to John Gyle and Mary Savanah Wheat Ray. She married first, Clyde Deck in 1922, he died in 1946, she then married Louis Turman in 1947 and he died in 1950, she then married Wilburn Fish on November 6, 1952 and he died January 24, 1980.

       She is survived by son, Clyde Deck, Jr. stepsons, Rev. Wm. E., Wilburn L., Gerald T., Darius E. and Connie P. Fish, stepdaughters, Mrs. Claude Gibbons, Mrs. Claude Curtis and Mrs. Joe Seabaugh and three sisters; Mrs. Sylvia Gibbs, Mrs. Helen Lewis and Mrs. Jewell Reznick.

Dorothy Anita Fish

       Dorothy Fish, age 65, died December 3, 1990. She was born January 25, 1925 in Chaffee to Herbert Lee and Nellie Jane Skelton Houseman. She married Wm. Earl Fish on November 23, 1940.

       She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Chaffee.

       She is survived by her husband, sons; Wm. E. Fish Jr. and Bobby Joe Fish, brothers; Donald, James Dale and Herbert Lee Houseman, sisters, Juanita Tanner, Virgie Miles, Earline Gillespie and Beatrice Margrabe.

 

   

FISH, W. LLOYD

W. Lloyd Fish, 77, of Jackson died March 13, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 20, 1927, at Kennett, Mo., son of Wilbourn and Lottie Mae Johnson Fish. He and Bonnie Schlicting were married Feb. 10, 1979, in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of Cape First Church. He had been affiliated with St. Mark's Lodge 93 since Jan. 23, 1979, and served as past worshipful master in 1991. He received degrees from Lemon Grove Lodge 736 in Lemon Grove, Calif., was a member of York Rite in Cape Girardeau, Cape Shrine Club, and Scottish Rite and Shriners in St. Louis. He was a 50-year member of Chaffee Elks and past member of Noon Optimist Club.

Mr. Fish owned and operated Cape Auto Mart 10 years. He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, the Rev. Wilbourn Ray Fish of Throgmartin, Texas, Wayne Fish of Amarillo, Texas; a stepson, James R. Foister of Jacksonville, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sheila (Tim) Martin of Jackson; three brothers, the Rev. William E. Fish of Miller, Mo., Darius Fish of Pollack Pines, Calif., Connie P. Fish of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Linda Weaver of Ellington, Mo., Laveda Curtis of Chaffee; a granddaughter, Kirstie (Mark) Watkins; five stepgrandchildren, Rebecca (Rick) Fehr, Rachel Martin, Andrew Martin, Scott Huffman and Christopher (Michelle) Foister; a great-grandson, Hunter Blake Watkins; five great-stepgrandchildren, Zachary Richard Fehr, Emily Noelle Fehr, Jada Beatrice Martin, Isiah Foister and Daniel Foister.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

The funeral will be at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. The Revs. Wilbourn Fish and William Fish will officiate. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, Ill., with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.

Wilburn Fish, age 84, died January 24, 1980. He was born March 3, 1895 in Zalma, MO to Thomas Monroe and Clarissa Elizabeth Gobble Fish. He married Bertie Ray on November 6, 1952.

       Benjamin H. Flemens, age 77, died November 26, 1965. He was born November 19, 1888 in Paragould, AR to Wm. and Helen Flemens. He resided at 328 E. Davidson.

       He married Mrs. Mary Jane Poole of St. Louis on April 11, 1939.

       He began working for Frisco Railway Company on August 31, 1910 as a fireman and was promoted to engineer on December 20, 1923 retiring on July 1, 1962.

       He was a lifetime member of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division 595.

       “Buck” Foeste, age 70, died January 10, 1992. He was born January 31, 1921 in Cape to Fred Newt and Callie Barnes Foeste. He married Mildred Winifred Howarth on November 29, 1947.

       He was very active in the Babe Ruth Baseball program for many years. He resided at 307 E. Yoakum.

       He is survived by his wife, two sons; Steven and James “Kimo” Foeste and a daughter Pamela Foeste.

Mildred Winifred Foeste, 83, of Chaffee died March 30, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 23, 1921, in Granite Falls, Wash., daughter of Arthur W. and Fida Marie Wood Howarth. She and James A. "Buck" Foeste were married Nov. 29, 1947. He died Jan. 10, 1992.

Foeste was a member of First Baptist Church, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Foeste of Cape Girardeau, James "Kimo" Foeste of Chaffee; a daughter, Pamela Foeste of Chaffee; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Amick_Burnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Cliff Day officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery

    Mrs. Foley, 92 years old, died Monday at Cape LaCroix Manor in Cape.

    She was born January 4, 1890, in Hornbeck, Tn, daughter of Ferdinand and Mary Carroll Ashley. She married Sam Foley of Chaffee, June 29, 1913. He died November 6, 1952.

    Mrs. Foley has lived in Chaffee since 1909 and was a clerk at the post office here 17 years. She was City Treasurer from 1961-71, and a member of First United Methodist Church since 1909, Chaffee Chapter  48 of Order of Eastern Star, and Delaplain Lodge 474 of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union.

    Survivors include two nieces, Mrs. Catherine Schaefer of Memphis, Tn and Mrs. Elizabeth Cunha of Redwood City, Ca.

Sam Foley, age 62, died November 6, 1952. He was born April 24, 1890 in Hayti, Mo the son of James Wm. and Mary Frances Jones Foley.

He was survived by a brother, Charles Foley, a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Steele.

 

   

FORD, BESSIE

Bessie Ford, 89, of Chaffee died Oct, 28, 1998, at Heartland Care Rehab Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 13, 1909, in St. Louis,  daughter of John Marshall and Alice Finney.  She and Cline G Ford were married Feb 28, 1934, in Cape Girardeau.  He died Aug. 24, 1978.

Ford retired as a sewing machine operator from Florsheim Shoe Co., and also retired as head cook at Chaffee Nutrition Center.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School.  She was a member of Chaffee Business and Professional Women and was a former Woman of the Year.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Kluba of Gaithersburg, Md., Sharon Anglin of Cape Girardeau, two brothers, Henry Philbert of Lockport, Ill., Dr. John Finney of Cape Girardeau, and five grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral services were held at Calvary Church.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Cline G Ford, 67, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday (8/24/1978) at the Chaffee General Hospital of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Feb. 28, 1911 at Whitewater to the late Clarence Albert and Mammie Hunt Ford.

A daughter, Patricia Ann Ford, and a grandchild preceded him in death.

He was a self-employed farmer, retiring in 1973.

He had lived in Chaffee for 18 years, moving there from Whitewater.

On Feb. 28, 1924 he married Bessie Finney of Laflin.  She survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Kluba, and Mrs. Sharon Werner of St. Louis; a brother, Keith Ford of Chaffee; three sisters, Mrs. Delores Hampton of Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Minnie Pike of Dearborn, Mich., and Mrs. Jenny Wren Cleary of the state of Washington; and three grandchildren.

The body was at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home where services were held at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. James Murphy, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating.

Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Wilma O. Ford, 88, of Chaffee, died Aug. 20, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 10, 1918, in Randles, Mo., daughter of John and Eunice Scamahorn Groseclose. She and Keith Ford were married on Nov. 24, 1939, in Benton. He died on May 11, 1987.

Ford taught grade school at Whitewater for several years, and at Chaffee public schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Jim Ford of Festus, Mo.; a brother, J.W. Groseclose of Chaffee; a sister, Melba Hutson of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral will be at the Ford And Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Blakey and Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Alvin M Frank

Alvin M. Frank, 84, of Chaffee died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 18, 1922, at Dutchtown, son of Henry Philip John and Manda Rosine Anna Springer Frank. He and Adella Catherine Kirchdoerfer were married Jan. 21, 1950.

Alvin lived in Cape Girardeau before moving to Chaffee in 1955. When he and Adella moved to Chaffee, there was no telephone at their home. Alvin and Adella were instrumental in having telephone poles and lines built and installed along Highway 77 and on County Road 250. He was also instrumental in getting the mail route changed so that mail was delivered on County Road 250. Until the change, their mail was delivered to boxes that were placed under a large tree at Highway 77. Forty-four years ago with the help of family, Alvin built and wired the entire family home.

He was a lifetime farmer who farmed Giboney Houck ground at Cape Girardeau for 63 years before he retired. He attended Campster School in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member and an usher of St. Ambrose Catholic Church at Chaffee, St. Ambrose Men's Club, and served on St. Ambrose Parish Council. He cooked chicken and dumplings at the parish dinners for 31 years. Alvin was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Father Marquette Council 11205 of Cape Girardeau, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Thomas A. Langen Assembly of Cape Girardeau, Notre Dame Booster Club, Cape County Farm Bureau, Friends of Saint Francis Medical Center, a volunteer electrician at SEMO District Fair in the 1950s, and served as a delegate for MFA Inc. District 14.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joe David (Kay) Frank of Jackson, Michael (Debbie) Frank of Cape Girardeau, Alvin (Kim) Frank Jr. of Chaffee; two daughters, Mary Ann Hennecke of Cape Girardeau, Barbara (Roy) Beel of Jackson; a brother, Johnny Frank of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Josephine Schuessler and Hermina Westrich of Cape Girardeau; 10 grandchildren, Rev. Mr. William Hennecke Jr. of St. Louis, Jason (Natalie) Frank of Freeburg, Ill., Melanie (Greg) Peters of Bonnots Mill, Mo., Jaymie Kay (Chris) Castens of Alton, Ill., Olivia (Keith) Hancock of Florissant, Mo., Danielle Hennecke and Shelley Frank of Cape Girardeau, Emma and Robyn Beel of Jackson, Mo., and H.A. Timothy Frank of Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry Frank; and two sisters, Clara Stoll and Marie Kirchdoerfer.

The Mass will be concelebrated by the Rev. Ralph Duffner, the Rev. Thomas Kiefer and Rev. Mr. William Hennecke Jr. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Pallbearers are H.A. Timothy Frank, Jason Frank, Richard Ostendorf, Henry Martin Schuessler, George Kirchdoerfer, and his three godsons Eddie Kirchdoerfer, Robert James Jr., and James Frank.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Ambrose School and Notre Dame Regional High School.

Arthur Emmet Free, 82, of Chaffee died April 16, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Chaffee, son of Arthur and Marie Lyre Free. He and Olga Fluegge were married Jan. 17, 1948, in Jackson.

Free was a letter carrier for the U.S. post office in Chaffee. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chaffee, and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Clifford Free of O'Fallon, Mo.; a daughter, Marnet Eftink of Jackson, Mo.; a brother, Larry Free of Poway, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, and from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Wayne Schwiesow officiating. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Missouri Honors Program. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Cape Girardeau.

Brenda Carol Freeland, 52, of Chaffee died Jan. 24, 2006, at her home.

She was born Nov. 18, 1953, at Holcomb, Mo., daughter of William Athel and Ada Louise Reese Johnson. She and Steve Freeland were married June 5, 1971.

Freeland was a cashier and sales associate at the One-Stop Store in Chaffee.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Scott Freeland of Chaffee; four daughters, Carole Hoots of Scott City, Evelyn Freeland of Whitewater, Sarah Freeland of Cape Girardeau, Emily Freeland of Chaffee; a brother, Ray Johnson of Navarre, Fla.; two sisters, Jimmie Dean of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Faye Coronado of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

She was born March 3, 1915, in Qulin, Mo., daughter of Luther and Grace Webb Arnold.

She married Gaines Woodrow Freeman on Jan. 21, 1933. He died Feb. 21, 1991.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Freeman and Michael Freeman, both of Chaffee; and five grandchildren.

There will be no service. Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Marvolin Freeman, 75, of Chaffee, died July 26, 1996 at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born July 22, 1921, at Sikeston, daughter of Wm. Gaines and Mary Demetrius Black Freeman.

She had been a secretary at Ann’s Insurance and Florsheim Shoe Company in Chaffee. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chaffee.

Survivors include a sister, Opal Holder of Chaffee.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Services were held at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Gray officiating. Burial was in Sikeston City Cemetery.
