       Lewis Naeve, age 57, died May 26, 1998. He was born February 20, 1941 in Granite City, IL to Louis and Edith Downing Naeve. He married Verla Marie Brotherton on August 1, 1958.

       He is survived by his wife, a son Ron Naeve; two daughters, Connie Burks and Tammy Rains; a brother, Robert W. Naeve, stepbrother, Roy Downing. He was preceded in death by a special grandmother who helped raise him, Blanche Downing.

       He worked for Thorngate LTD and resided at 310 S. Third.

Harold Robert Nance

       Harold Nance, age 78, died July 11, 1981. He was born May 19, 1903 in Burfordville, MO to Elam Albert and Effie Lee Davis Nance. He married Reba Burns on December 5, 1924.

       He is survived by his wife, two sons, James and Darius Nance; two daughters, Wilma Lape and Delois Donley; a brother, Orville Nance and two sisters, Hazel Burns and Verma Cochran.

       He resided at 425 Gray.

 

 

NANCE, LAWANDA CAROLYN

LaWanda Carolyn Nance, 55, of Chaffee died July 4, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1949, at Cape Girardeau, daughter of Charles Edward and Marie W. LaGrand Robinson.

She was a retired housekeeper for Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She and Ricky A. Nance were married July 1, 1999.

Survivors include her husband; her father, Charles Robinson of Flint, Mich.; a son, Jamie Myers of Chaffee; three brothers, Charles "Chuck" Robinson and Steve Robinson, both of Chaffee, and Rick Robinson of Cape Girardeau; and a grandchild.

Visitation is private. Graveside service will be held at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee, with the Rev. Watis Harrell officiating.  Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee in charge of arrangements.

                He is survived by his wife. One sister, Mrs. Rosa Young preceded him in death.

       Reba Nance, age 91, died April 30, 1997. She was born March 30, 1906 at East Prairie, MO to John Sherman and Allie Morris Burns. She married Harold Nance on December 5, 1924.

       She is survived by a son, James Nance; a daughter, Delois Donley and a sister, Ercie Benfield.

       She resided at 302 N. Third.

 

 

NANNEY, JACKSON CHARLES

Jackson Charles Nanney, 77, of Chaffee died Feb. 17, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 15, 1927, in Bollinger County, Mo., son of James Roscoe and Annie Perry Nanney. He and Anna Mae Sadler were married April 26, 1947. He and Barbara Goforth were married March 31, 1976.

Nanney was a retired mechanic and maintenance worker for Chaffee Housing Authority.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jackson Nanney Jr. of Chaffee; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Mick Owens and Billie and Ron Davis of Chaffee, Judith and Calvin Cardin of Portageville, Mo., Pam and Bert Wilson of St. Louis; three stepsons, Ed Lowry of Pevely, Mo., Billy Lowry of Festus, Mo., Robert Ship of House Springs, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Donna Lowry and Gina Odom of Hillsboro, Mo.; two sisters, Pearl Kinder of Allenville, Loretta Harris of Delta; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.

The funeral will at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel, with the Revs. Dan Baggett and Wayne Kinder officiating.  Burial will be at a later date in Union Park Cemetery.

William Howard Nay

       Wm. H. Nay, age 80, died July 9, 1973. He was born October 17, 1892 in Calhoun Co., W. VA to Enoch and Roanne Copenhaver Nay Jr. He married Margaret A. Williams of Salem, W.VA on June 26, 1925. He served with the U.S. Army during WWI. He was employed as a inspector for the Mississippi River Transportation Corp. of St. Louis for 29 years, retiring on October 17, 1957. He moved to Chaffee in 1965.

       He is survived by his wife, daughter, Mrs. Martin (Lucille) McKinney. A son Donald preceded him in death on February 14, 1970.

Davey Lee Newcomer, 71, of Bloomfield died April 6, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare.

He was born Feb. 25, 1935, in East Prairie, Mo., son of James Louis and Carrie Bond Newcomer. He and Wanda Mae White were married in 1952. She died in 1991. He and Novella Linville were married Oct. 2, 1999, at Dexter, Mo.

Newcomer lived most of his life in Chaffee, Mo., with the last two years at Bloomfield. He was a member of St. Joe General Baptist Church at Idalia, Mo.

He served in the National Guard from 1951 to 1959.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Randy Newcomer of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a daughter, Robyn Hindman of Chaffee; two stepsons, James Razer of Bloomfield, Leland Razer of Risco, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Diana Hanner of Valier, Ill.; two brothers, Eugene "Butch" Newcomer of Jackson, Darroyl Newcomer of Hudson, Wis.; a sister, Melba Linville of Woodriver, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a brother.

The funeral will be at Watkins and Sons Funeral home in Dexter, with Dan Sitze officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery at Chaffee.

       Belle Newlin, age 66, died September 10, 1970. She was born January 21, 1904 in Morehouse, MO to Joe and Harriett McClanahan Phegley. She married  Lyles E. Newlin of Marion, IL on July 18, 1921. They moved to Chaffee in 1935. She was a former employee of Chaffee Manufacturing Co. Mr. Newlin passed away on June 6, 1960.

       Surviving are daughters; Mrs. Odus Smith and Mrs. Albert Fowler, sisters, Mrs. Clara Hunt, Mrs. Ben Kirn, Mrs. Otto Golightly and Mrs. Max Kennedy, brother, Wm. Phegley.

Lyle Edward Newlin

       Lyle E. Newlin, age 70, died June 6, 1960. He was born June 18, 1889 in Goreville, IL to Lyles and Love Jane Adams Newlin. He married Belle Phegley of Oran, MO on July 18, 1920.

       Early in their married life he worked at C.& E.I. RR at West. Frankfort, IL until 1922. They moved to Chaffee in 1935 and he worked for Chaffee Ice Company. He enlisted in WWI in 1917. He received the Silver Star for Gallantry in action while servicing.

                Survivors are daughters, Mrs. Odus Smith and Mrs. Albert Fowler, brothers, Wm., Jess and John Newlin, sisters, Mrs. Roy Melton and Mrs. Dora Hutchins

       Albert Newton, age 64, died May 12, 1965. He was born April 1, 1901. He married Mary Ellen Gossam in 1935. She died in 1953. He worked as a farm laborer around Chaffee and Delta.

John Nickens III

John R. Nickens, formerly of Chaffee and a prominent businessman in Southeast Missouri for many years, died of a heart attack on Christmas Eve (1990) in TX. He and his wife, Francis had recently moved to San Antonio after spending the previous 10 years in Sanibel Island, FL, where he was affiliated with Prudential Florida Real Estate.

A native of the Missouri Bootheel, he was born in Malden, MO on December 17, 1927 to John R. And Mary Emma Doggett Nickens. He attended Malden High School and spent much of his time in the home of an aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. L. O. Wicecarver prior to joining the Army and serving in World War II. On January 5, 1943, he married Frances Louise Gales of Dexter and she survives.

Known throughout the community for his contributions to commerce and education, Nickens held a firm belief in the ethics of the hard work, perseverance and fair play.  He established a neighborhood sundry and drug store in Chaffee in 1947 and parlayed a small investment into a chain known as Nickens Pharmacy with stores in Advance, Bloomfield, Chaffee, Dexter and Oran. He served as president of the Chaffee Board of Education for 20 years and maintained an active community role by serving on the Chaffee Building and Loan Board, the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Merchants Association, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, United Methodist Men’s Club, Rotary, American Legion, VFW and Elks.

Funeral services were conducted on December 28, 1990 at Hoggard Funeral Home in Piggott, AR with Rev. Richard Combs of the First United Methodist Church in Charleston officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Patricia Ann Derryberry of Columbus, OH, and Linda Kay Dunker of Breese, IL; a son John R. Nickens III of San Antonia, TX; a half-brother, Clyde Hawes of Sikeston; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of loving friends and relatives.

            Nickerson, 86, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

            She was born Feb. 12, 1911, at Crump, MO, daughter of A. J. and Rhoda Crump Allen. She married Floyd Nickerson, who died Aug. 7, 1974.

            Nickerson was a retired teacher from Chaffee Elementary School. She was a member of Missouri Retired Teachers, National Teachers Association, Chaffee PEO, Delta Homemakers, and First Christian Church in Chaffee and resided at 314 Cook.

            Survivors include three nephews, Rev. Gary Allen of Fox Lake, IL, Patrick Allen of Pontiac, MI, Ron Allen of Englewood, FL; two nieces, Peggy Lewis of St. Louis, and Joyce Miller of Leeds, AL.

       Carl B. Noble, age 41, died February 5, 1961. He was born in Canalou, MO on August 5, 1919 to John Hampton and Minnie Opal Fox Noble. The family moved to Chaffee in 1941. Carl entered the service in 1942 and served overseas with the U.S. Air Force in the Pacific for 36 months. In 1953 he moved back to Chaffee and operated a taxi service until 1956.

       He is survived by his parents, a step-daughter, Miss Carol Ann Noble, brothers, Robert E. and Joe E. Noble, sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Laura) Kinder and Mrs. E. B. (Rosalie) McDaniels.

     Born October 15, 1933, in St. Louis, daughter of Edward and Agnes Sadler Wilhite.

     A homemaker, Noble belonged to First Assembly of God Church in Chaffee.

     Survivors include a son, Mike Noble of Chaffee; two daughters, Janet Littlepage of Scott City, and Martha Noble of AR; a brother, Rou Wilhite of Rockview, and four grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.

     Services were held at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel with C. B. Stidham officiating.

Joe E. Noble, 67, of Chaffee died Dec. 14, 2004, at his home.

He was born June 17, 1937, at Kennett, Mo., son of John Hampton and Minnie Opal Fox Noble.

Noble was a retired electrician. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 58 in Detroit, Mich. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include two sons, Justin Noble of Cape Girardeau, Carl Noble of Stroudsburg, Pa.; five daughters, Belinda Noble of Cape Girardeau, Rebecca Noble of Florida, Cindy Cole of Ponder, Texas, Vivian Kinder of Chaffee, Carla Noble of Malden, Mo.; and a sister, Laura Marrs of Chaffee. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, two brothers and a sister.

Robert Edward Noble, 85, of Advance died April 23, 2004, at Dexter Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 16, 1918, at Morehouse, Mo., son of Thomas and Annie Fox Noble.

Noble was a retired machine operator. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a son, Mike Noble of Chaffee, Mo.; a daughter, Martha Noble of Arkansas; a brother, Raymond Noble of Memphis, Tenn. and a special friend, Loraine Phillips of Advance.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Earl Nobles

     Earl H. Nobles, 76, of Scott City, MO, died May 28, 2001, at his home.

     He was born November 15, 1924, at Morehouse, MO, son of Eddie and Lela Miller Nobles. He had worked as an engineer with Burlington Northern Railway Company of Memphis until his retirement.

     He married Dorothy Mae Crump on May 19, 1944. She survives.

     He had served in the U. S. Army during WWII and was a member of the Chaffee VFW Post 3127. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chaffee.

     Survivors include his wife of Scott City; two sons, David Nobles of Batesville AK, and Robert Nobles of Columbus, MS; a daughter Lori Ann Klipfel of Kelso, MO; two brothers, Grady Nobles of Senatobia, MS, and Paul Nobles of Austin, TX; a sister Ladon Fennell of Rincon, GA; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a granddaughter.

     Services were conducted at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. LeRoy Quinn officiating. Burial was in Union Park Cemetery.

Vernon R. Noble, 92, of Sikeston Aug. 26, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 9, 1909, in Kentucky, son of John Mottley and Minnie Avery Noble.

Noble had been a farm laborer and was employed by Chaffee Police Department.

Survivors include a niece, Laura Marrs of Chaffee, Mo.

NORDIN, HENRY

Henry Arlie Nordin, 88, of Chaffee died Dec. 9, 2004, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born March 8, 1916, at Chaffee, son of Clarence Henry and Lethie Marie Biby Nordin. He and Cora Leona Seyer were married Dec. 28, 1985. She died Jan. 22, 1993.

Nordin retired from Chaffee Public Works Department.

Survivors include five sons, Rodhney Nordin of Barnhart, Mo., A.J. Seyer of Jackson, Mike Seyer of Lilbourn, Mo., Tom Seyer of Chaffee, Richard Seyer of Columbia, Mo.; six daughters, Ada Carroll, Ruth Hailey, Lawanna Bounds and Anna Wicker, all of Chaffee, Theresa Cochran of Scott City, Della Hopke of Council Grove, Kan.; a brother, James Nordin of Chaffee; 39 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, a sister and a grandson.

John Eric Nordin Jr.

       John Nordin, age 35, died January 8, 1995. He was born December 9, 1959 in Dexter, MO to Charlie H. and Ruth Ellen Skaggs Nordin. He first married Jean Evelyn Edmonds on December 3, 1976, she died January 11, 1978. He then married Patricia Ann Jones of Morley on March 23, 1977.

       He is survived by his wife, two sons, Douglas and Allen Nordin; a daughter, Melissa Ann Nordin; three half brothers, Jack Nordin, Jim and Richard Dutton and a sister, Charlene Lacy and two half sisters, Alice Sanders and Betty Jean Irvin.

       He resided at 429 Helen and was a member of Free Trinity Pentecostal Church in Randles, MO.

       Charles Nordin, age 75, died August 8, 1980. He was born July 8, 1905 in Idalia, MO to John Henry and Sally Rock Nordin. He married Ruth Ann ross in 1924, she died in 1935.

       He is survived by two sons, Jack and John Nordin; three daughters, Alice Sanders, Betty Irwin and Charlene Tripp.

Clarence Henry Nordin

       Clarence H. Nordin, age 85, died December 22, 1972. He was born in Anniston, MO on August 10, 1887 to John Henry and Sally Roch Nordin. He married Lethie Marie Biby of Chaffee on March 28, 1913. They moved to Chaffee in 1913 where he farmed and worked as a general laborer.

       Survivors are his wife, sons; Henry and James Edward Nordin, daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Keller, brother Charles Nordin.

Faye Nell Nordin of Chaffee died at her home in Chaffee on March 24, 2001.

She was born March 30, 1924, at Lutesville, MO, daughter of Henry B. and Thelma Jackson Long.

She was a retired store clerk. She previously worked at Cox’s Dime Store in Chaffee.

She married James E. Nordin on January 28, 1952. He survives.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Services were conducted at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel with Rev. Watis Harrell officiating. Burial was in Union Park Cemetery.

       She is survived by two sons, Henry and James E. Nordin; a daughter, Beatrice Keller; a brother, Robert Biby and two sisters, Roxie Chapman and Ellen Dallas.

       She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy of Chaffee.

Raymond C. Nunnally, 70, of Chaffee died January 7, 1995 at the Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born May 4, 1924, in Eaton, AR, son of James Asrow and Miriam Ola Graines Nunnally.

He married Jane L. Powers April 19, 1943. She died February 27, 1981.

He is survived by four sons, Ray and Alvin Nunnally of Morley, Bobby Joe Nunnally of Chaffee, and Gary Nunnally of Arnold, MO; four sisters, Ruth Davis, Margie Lantz, Ellen Trombley and Nancy Puckett; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Forest Hill Memorial Garden Cemetery near Morley.
