Emma O’Bannon

       Emma O’Bannon, age 80, died August 26, 1978. She was born February 9, 1898 in Chaffee to August Martin and Mathilda Pobst Heeb. She married Wm. O’Bannon on December 31, 1938.

       She is survived by four brothers, Loy, Alfred, Clarance and Raymond Heeb and three sisters, Leona Emrick, Wilma and Freda Heeb.

       She was a member of First Christian Church of Chaffee and resided at 329 E. Davidson.

    Wm. S. O’Bannon, 70 years old, of Chaffee, died at 11:05 Wednesday morning at a hospital in Cape Girardeau where he had been a patient for two days.

    Mr. O’Bannon was born June 1, 1894 near Point Pleasant. Mr. O’Bannon was married December 31, 1938 to Miss Emma Heeb of Chaffee. Mrs. O’Bannon survives. Mr. O’Bannon was employed as a fireman on the Frisco Railroad until the late 1920’s. In 1933 he was employed as an engineer with the U.S. Corps of Engineers and held that position until his retirement in October, 1948.

    Mr. O’Bannon was a member of the First Christian Church in Chaffee, the Cape Girardeau Odd Fellows Lodge No. 675, Chaffee Lodge No. 615, A.F. and A.M., and Chapter No. 626 of the National Association of Retired Civil Employees of Cape Girardeau.  He resided at 329 E. Davidson.

   In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Samuel R. O’Bannon, Garden Grove, Ca, and Welton L. O’Bannon and three grandchildren.

    The body is at the Bisplinghoff Funeral Home in Chaffee where Masonic rites will be conducted tonight at 7:30. Services will be conducted at 2 Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ben H. Cleaver, Cape Girardeau, officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery with Odd Fellows graveside rites.

 

   

OBERMANN Jr.,  EARL LEON

Earl Leon Obermann Jr., 52, of Chaffee died June 16, 2004, in the emergency room at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born July 19, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, son of Earl Leon and Virginia Marie Estes Obermann Sr. He and Linda Marie Foehr were married Oct. 28, 1981.

Obermann was a forklift operator at Dana Corp. in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Elks Lodge 1810 in Chaffee and Eagles Aerie 4154 in Advance, Mo.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Andy and Robert Obermann of Chaffee; two brothers, Terry and Larry Obermann of Dutchtown; three sisters, Brenda Carnell of Delta, Susan Reed of Dutchtown, Donna Davault of Advance; maternal grandmother, Marie Hinkle of Marble Hill, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral will be at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, with the Rev. Tom Morris officiating.  Burial will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery.

 

 

OBERMANN, TERRY

Terry Leon Obermann, 53, of Dutchtown died April 21, 2007, at his home.

He was born March 28, 1954, in Cape Girardeau, son of Earl Leon and Virginia Marie Estes Obermann Sr.

Obermann was a foreman with Columbia Construction in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include two daughters, Lindsey and Amy Obermann of Odessa, Texas; a brother, Larry Obermann of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Brenda Carnell of Delta, Susan Reed of Dutchtown and Donna DeVault of Advance, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

The funeral will be at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Marty Blakey officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery at Chaffee.

       Donald O’Leary, age 61, died May 17, 1976. He was born June 8, 1914 in St. Louis, MO to Dan and Alice O’Hearne O’Leary. He married Georgia Virginia Bentley on October 22, 1953.

       He is survived by his wife; mother; a son, Dennis O’Leary; step son, John Kincaid; two daughters, Betty Miller and Patricia O’Leary and a sister, Mrs. Bill Stewart.

Georgia Virginia O’Leary

       Georgia O’Leary, age 54, died Sept 20, 1982. She was born December 25, 1927 in Cape Co., MO to John Wesley and Olivia Caroline Senn Bentley. She married Donald J. O’Leary on October 22, 1953.

       She is survived by two sons, Dennis O’Leary and John Kincaid, two daughters, Patricia Baber and Elizabeth Miller.

 

Patrick J. O’Mara

            A former member of the U. S. Soccer team and member of the Soccer Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Patrick J. O’Mara, of Chaffee died at 9:40 Thursday at the Chaffee General Hospital where he had been a patient since October 23. He was 68 years old.

            Mr. O’Mara was born in St. Louis on December 25, 1910.

            He was a member of the U. S. Olympic Soccer team in 1924 and again in 1928 when the team defeated the soccer team from Germany. In the early 1930’s he signed a contract to play professional soccer with the Ben Miller’s Soccer Club which played in St. Louis old Sportsman Park.

            He was inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame in November 1978.

            Following his soccer career, Mr. O’Mara became a printer in the St. Louis area.

            On March 17, 1961, he married Mrs. Mary (Moore) Bagbey of Chaffee. They moved from St. Louis to Chaffee in 1963.

            Mr. O’Mara was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the Chaffee Elk’s Lodge 1810 for which he served as secretary for many years.

            Surviving include his wife, a son, Joseph Patrick O’Mara, Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Weber, St. Charles; a stepson, Charles Bagbey of Cape and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Floyd Underwood, of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

            Friends may call after 6:30 tonight at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee where a parish rosary service will be held at 7:30 tonight and an Elk’s memorial service will be conducted at 8 tonight.

            Funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10 at the St. Ambrose Church with the Rev. Robert Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lura Evelyn O’Nan

       Lura E. O’Nan, age 79, died October 28, 1962. She was born in New Haven, IL on August 26, 1883 to Luman and Sarah Dillard Goforth. She married David H. Dudley of New Haven on January 6, 1903, he died October 6, 1909, she then married James M. O’Nan December 1910. They moved to Chaffee September 14, 1919. He died October 31, 1946.

       Survivors are sons Forrest and Earl Dudley, daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Louise) Cunningham, step-daughters, Mrs. Raliegh Millner and Mrs. Harold Duke, sister, Mrs. Lora Wood and brother Clyde Goforth.

       She resided at 403 N. Third.

 

Lawrence Oliver

Chaffee-May 5, 1955

     Funeral services for Lawrence E. Oliver were held last Wednesday morning at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, with Father Thomas Geraghty officiating.

    Mr. Oliver, 45 years old, an insurance agent and resident of Chaffee was instantly killed early Sunday morning when his car, and a milk truck driven by Grover C. Corbin Jr., of Cape sideswiped. The two vehicles were preceding in opposite directions and collided on Highway 25, just north of Gordonville Road. Oliver’s car, a Plymouth, was practically demolished. Corbin the driver of the 1954 International Milk Truck, sustained a lacerated knee.

    Mr. Oliver was born August 29, 1909, in Oran. In 1930, he married Miss Alma K. Kielhafner at Oran. Since 1941 he had lived in Chaffee, where he was associated with his father, Wm. L. Oliver, an attorney, until 1946, when his father died.

   He was a member of of the Knights of Columbus, the Rotary Club, The Elks Lodge and the Chamber of Commerce.

   He is survived by his wife; four children, Paul E. Oliver stationed with the Navy in Philadelphia, and Carolyn L., Wm. L. and Mary Margaret Oliver all living at home; two Lyman of Detroit, Mi and Chester Oliver of Ferndale Mi, and three sisters, Mrs. Earl Watkins of Oran, Mrs. Floyd Gilliam of Detroit and Mrs. Modie Sears of Randles, Mo.

    Pallbearers were Dr. L. P. Spencer, G.A. Heisserer, Harlan Whitaker, Leo G. Trapp, Arthur Heeb and Charles Kielhofner.

    Burial was in St. Ambrose Church Cemetery.

       Asa Oller, age 62, died March 29, 1971. He was born June 3, 1908 in Olive Branch, IL to Elige and Maggie Powless Oller. He married Ina A. Clubb of Chaffee on June 10, 1929.

       He was employed by Missouri Utilities at Chaffee from 1937 to 1964.

       He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee.

       Surviving are his wife, step-father J. C. Hampton, half-brothers, Eugene, Lester and Norman Hampton. A son preceded him in death.

Grace Mae Ourth, 80, of Chaffee died Sept. 23, 2002, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born March 31, 1922, at Parma, Mo., daughter of Robert William and Blanche Elizabeth Knupp Biby.  She and Gregory M. Ourth were married Nov. 13, 1943.  He died March 23, 1989.

Ourth retired as a machine operator at Florsheim Shoe Co. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Daughters of St. Ambrose.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond Ourth of Cape Girardeau, Gregg Ourth Jr. of Oran, Mo., Brian Ourth of Chaffee; two daughters, Bernice Atkins of Chaffee, Rebecca Seyer of New Hamburg, Mo.; two sisters, Maudie Schmitt and Myrtle Slack of Chaffee; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother.

Henry J. Ourth

            Henry J. Ourth, 83 years old, of Chaffee, died at 9:20 Wednesday, March 28, 1984 in Chaffee General Hospital.

            On August 23, 1927, he married the former Agnes Seyer.

            Mr. Ourth was a section foreman with the Frisco Railroad. He was associated with the railroad from 1918 until retiring in 1963.

            He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church here and its Men’s Club as well as St. Vincent’s Council 1111, Knights of Columbus, Cape.

            Surviving are his wife, sons, Henry J. Ourth, Jr., St. Louis and James Ourth, Chaffee, daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise DeGarcia, Maryland Heights, brothers, Gregory M. and Eugene Ourth both of Chaffee, sister, Mrs. Regina Kinder, Cape, 10 grandsons and a great grandson.

            The body is at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday.

            There will be a Knights of Columbus service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Friday followed at 8 by a rosary.

            Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Church with the Rev. Raymond Kumkel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

 

   

 

OVERFIELD, MAUJEVA LOUISE

Maujeva Louise Overfield, 60, of Chaffee died Feb. 26, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born May 17, 1947, in St. Louis, daughter of Dennis Eugene and Goldie McBride LaCroix. She and Edward Richard Overfield were married March 10, 1978. He died May 6, 1988.

Overfield had been a presser at Bohanon Cleaners in Scott City and a clerk at Dollar General Store in Chaffee. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Daughters of St. Ambrose and Chaffee Booster Club. She was a Cub Scout leader in Chaffee two years, pastor parish relations committee in Scott City five years and assistant Brownie leader in Chaffee two years.

Survivors include a son, Douglas (Brandi) Overfield of Oran, Mo.; a daughter, Jonell Overfield of Columbia, Mo.; a brother, Ed LaCroix of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Carol Matteson of West Port, Wash., Dee LaCroix of Scott City; three grandchildren, Blake, Connor and Paige Overfield of Oran.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

He was born March 14, 1924, in Fort Worth, Texas, son of Edgar Layetta and Cora Mae Reason Owens. He and Doris Mae Heilmann were married June 5, 1943.

Owens retired as a section foreman with Burlington Northern Railroad Co. in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Owens Jr. of Chaffee, Jack Owens of Southaven, Miss.; two brothers, Alvie Owens and Eddie Williams of Escalon, Calif.; three sisters, Cora Griggs and Darlene Largent of Oakdale, Calif., Joyce Waite of Sullivan, Wis.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and two sisters.

       Roscoe Owens, age 72, died January 13, 1957. He was born August 24, 1884 in Graves Co., KY to Pryor and Elizabeth Owens. He first married Mary E. Swain of Portageville, MO in 1907 and moved to Chaffee in 1908 where she passed away September 15, 1933. He then married Mrs. Flora Schultz of Chaffee on July 24, 1941.

       He began working with the telephone company as a young man.

       Survivors include his wife, sons; Roy Ples, Merlin Jesse and Walter Eugene Owens, daughters; Mrs. Wm. Dale Ward and Mrs. Richard A. Klarmann.

Winnie Walker Ozee

       Winnie W. Ozee, age 74, died June 27, 1974. She was born September 4, 1899 in Advance, MO to James Wm. and Eliza Henri Garrett Walker.

       She moved to Chaffee in 1922 and began teaching and taught until 1968.

       She received her B.S. Degree in Social Science from Southeast MO State College in Cape, her Masters Degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN, she did her graduate work at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Memphis State University and Hardine College in Searcy, AR.

       She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Chaffee, United Methodist Women’s Organization and served as District Secretary for them, Served on official board, church choir, taught Victory Class and afternoon Bible Study Group. She was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired People, Chaffee Chapter #48 O.E.S., Chapter CX of P.E.O. and worked as a volunteer at Chaffee General Hospital and Chaffee Thrift Shop in local retired Senior volunteer program.

       She resided at 126 Heeb St.

Geoffrey Allen Ozment

       Geoffrey Ozment, infant son of Gregory Allen and Oleta Kay Proffer Ozment died at birth July 28, 1994.

       He is survived by his parents; grand and great grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Clayton Proffer, Leslie Ozment, Ann Ozment, Fern Ozment and Hazel Sexton and a sister Laura Stoffel.

       Resided at 302 Easy St.
