Frank UrhahnChaffee-Oct. 19, 1939
Funeral services for Frank Urhahn, 31 years old, a Frisco section
worker of Chaffee, who died late Tuesday at the Methodist Hospital in
Memphis, TN, of burns sustained earlier in the day in a explosion at a
tourist camp near Osceola, AR, were held Wednesday afternoon from Stubbs
Funeral Home here. Rev. R. M. Crenshaw, pastor of the Assembly of God
Church in Cape conducted the funeral and burial was in Union Park
Cemetery.
The blast that took Urhahn’s life also claimed that of Mrs.
Flora Burns of Chaffee. The couple had been at the tourist camp,
officers said, and apparently had ignited a gasoline stove to cook a
meal when the explosion occurred.
The explosion occurring early Tuesday, was heard by Milton Pope,
a farmer, who resides near the camp. He found the couple walking dazedly
around a cabin which was in flames. Their clothing was virtually burned
away and both had badly seared skin and their bodies were cut by glass.
Urhahn had tossed Mrs. Burns through a window when the explosion
occurred.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burns were held in Memphis Wednesday
and burial was in a cemetery there.
Urhahn had resided recently in Neelys Landing, MO in Cape County
while working on the Frisco Railroad. He was not married. He is survived
by his mother, Mrs. Cora Urhahn and a sister, Mrs. Mary Keller of
Chaffee.
