Alfred Poe Varble

       Alfred Varble, age 73, died August 11, 1965. He resided at 314 Elliott Avenue. He was born May 7, 1892 in Leora, MO to Wm. R. and Flora Bell Robertson Varble. He married Fannie Bell Jones on November 8, 1912. They moved to Chaffee in 1917.

       He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee. He served as City Street Commissioner for Chaffee from 1942 until 1965.

       Surviving are his wife, sons; Paul R. and Charles J. Varble, daughter; Mrs. Emerson (Velma) Huey, sisters; Mrs. George Pennington and Mrs. Clarence Williams.

Chaffee-1965-Missourian

    A former Chaffee street commissioner, Alfred P. Varble, 73 years old, died Wednesday night at a Cape hospital shortly after being admitted, following a heart attack.

    He was born at Leora and moved here in 1917. Mr. Varble served as street commissioner from 1942 until 1965.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Fanny Varble, two sons, Paul R. Varble of Chaffee and Charles J. Varble of St. Louis, one daughter, Mrs. Emerson Huey of Chaffee, two sisters, Mrs. George Pennington, Puxico, and Mrs. Clarence Williams of Chaffee, a foster brother Edgar Varble, Los Angeles, Ca and five grandchildren.

    The body is at the Bisplinghoff Funeral Home here. The Rev. Bill Ellis will conduct services Friday at 2 at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee

Fannie Bell Varble

       Fannie Varble, age 91, died August 11, 1988. She was born October 30, 1896 in Leora, MO to John Reddick and Emma Elaine Brentzel Jones. She married Alfred Varble on November 8, 1912.

       She is survived by two sons, Paul and Charles Varble; daughter, Velma Huey and a brother, Rev. Edward Jones.

 

 

VARBLE, CHARLES JUDSON

Charles Judson Varble, 83, of Chaffee died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

He was born May 26, 1919, at Chaffee, son of Alfred Poe and Fannie Bell Jones Varble.

He was a retired clerk for the General Services Administration in St. Louis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chaffee and the Chaffee VFW Post 3127.

Survivors include one sister, Velma Huey of Springfield, Mo., and one stepdaughter, Regina Curcio of Imperial, Mo.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 5 p.m. Monday.  The funeral will be at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery at Chaffee.

Paul Redrick Varble

       Paul Varble, age 75, died Sept. 3, 1992. He was born Aug. 17, 1917 in Wayne County., MO to Alfred Poe and Fannie Bell Jones Varble. He married Mrs. Eileen Neal Wondel on October 1, 1949.

       He is survived by his wife; two sons, Melvern Wondel and Mark Varble; a daughter, Becky Hanlon; brother, Charles Varble and a sister, Velma Huey.

       He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee and resided at 327 W. Parker.

Charles Wm. Vickery Sr.

       Charles W. Vickery, age 83, died October 8, 1974. He resided at 212 Black Avenue. He was born March 28, 1891 in Bonne Terre, MO to Goldsboro Francis and Agnes Lees Coleman Vickery. He married Hattie Pearl Parmeley of Knob Lick, MO on August 4, 1914. They had recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee. He was employed for the Frisco Railway Co. from 1910 until 1950.

       Survivors are his wife, sons’ Wm. G., Edwin Paul and Charles Jr. Vickery, daughter; Mrs. Charlene Talley.

       Ed Vickery, age 81, died July 25, 1998. He was born May 15, 1917 in Chaffee to Charles Wm. and Hattie Pearl Parmeley Vickery. He married Mildred Wiles on November 27. 1940.

       He is survived by his wife and a brother, Charles Vickery.

       He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee and resided at 331 South Brook.

Hattie Pearl Vickery

       Hattie Vickery, age 83, died February 27, 1980. She was born May 6, 1896 in DeLassus, MO to Wm. Edward and Margaret Ada Hunt Parmeley. She married Charles Wm. Vickery on August 4, 1914. He died October 8, 1974.

       She is survived by three sons, Wm., Edwin and Charles Vickery; one daughter, Charlene Talley and three sisters, Alma Shoptaugh, Blanche Erickson and Margaret Medley.

       She was a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee. She had lived in Chaffee since 1914.

 

 

VICKERY, MILDRED

Mildred Vickery, 83, of Chaffee died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Henderson County, Tenn., daughter of Lucian Young and Ada Frances Douglas Wiles. She and Edwin P. Vickery were married Nov. 27, 1940. He died July 25, 1998.

Vickery had owned and operated Mildred's Beauty Shop. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Chaffee P.E.O. Chapter, Chaffee Historical Society, and past matron of Chaffee Eastern Star Chapter 48.

Survivors include four brothers, Euel Wiles of Nashville, Tenn., Coy Wiles of Klamath Falls, Ore., Paul Wiles of Springfield, Mo., Lawton Wiles of Jackson, Tenn.   Preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.   The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Cliff Day officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery.

       Ginnie Vickery, age 65, died January 15, 1994. She was born January 4, 1929 in Chaffee to Elvie Lee and Pearl Aslee Bunyard Roney. She married Charles Wm. Vickery, Jr. on July 2, 1949.

       She is survived by her husband; two sons, Charles and James Vickery and three sisters, Hazel Schepker, Mary Brockmeyer and Gladys Garrett.

       She was owner and operator of Virginia’s Beauty Shop for 35 years, a member of First Baptist Church and resided at 601 Hubbard.

       Bill Vickery, age 71, died August 13, 1986. He was born May 2, 1915 in Chaffee to Charles Wm. and Hattie Pearl Parmeley Vickery. He married Fern Sample on July 16, 1938.

       He is survived by his wife; a son, Wm. R. Vickery; two daughters, Janet McGhee and Lana Kramer; two brothers, Edwin and Charles Vickery and a sister, Charlene Talley.

       He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chaffee, served as Municipal Judge of Chaffee, member of the 140th Infantry Band and resided at 607 Hubbard.

Ethel Von Kessel, 72, of Chaffee died Thursday July 4, 1996, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.

She was born July 23, 1923 in Cape Girardeau, daughter of James Eldon and Della Mae Martin Wright. She and Karl Von Kessel were married November 7, 1942. He died December 8, 1989.

Von Kessel formerly owned the Chaffee Signal and North Scott County Publishing. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3127 and Ladies Auxiliary to American Legion Post 389 and resided at 414 W. Davidson

Survivors include two sons, Lt. Col. Karl “Korky” Von Kessel of Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, and William “Billy” Von Kessel of Nashville, TN; three daughters, Karen Ball of Hillsboro, IL, Jackie Young of Colorado Springs, CO, and Debbie Sanders, of Nashville, TN; four brothers Bob and Bill Wright of Cape Girardeau, Brooks Wright of Sylvania, Ohio, and Martin Wright of Lakeland, FL; five sisters, Freeda Davis, Madge Sample and Shirley Thomas, all of Cape, and Veta Haynes and Phyllis Conyers, both of Overland; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee today at 3 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. William Marshal officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.

Karl Ferdinand Von Kessel

Karl Von Kessel, age 74, died December 8, 1989. He was born October 3, 1915 in St. Louis to Charles and Ethelyn Davis Von Kessel. He married Ethel Wrght on November 7, 1942.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Karl “Korky” and Wm. “Billy” Von Kessel and three daughters, Karen Ball, Jackie Young and Debbie Sanders.

He resided at 414 W. Davidson.

 

   

Von Leffern

Mildren Von Leffern, 82, of Chaffee died at her home on August 2, 1993.

She was born September 10, 1910, at Bloomfield, MO to Benjamin Alfred and Elizabeth Laura Hinze Unger.

She married Earl Von Leffern, who preceded her in death in 1952.

She had been owner and operator of the Western Auto Store in Chaffee since 1947.

Survivors include a nephew, Jack Spencer of Chaffee several great-nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel and burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.
